MELBOURNE Knights and Altona Magic played out a 2-2 draw at Paisley Park.
The Knights went into the match sitting on top of the Foxtel Cup table but have now relinquished its position to Green Gully, who defeated Richmond on the weekend.
The Knights hot the ground running with Ivan Franjic continuing his fine form around goal.
He scored in the 11th minute to give the Knights the early lead, his third in as many games.
Altona found themselves two goals two minutes later.
Andrew Barisic got on the end of a Pelikan cross to put the Knights 2-0 up only 13 minutes in.
But the Magic didn’t take long to peg the margin back.
Curcija found himself unmarked at the back post and tapped the ball in after receiving it from Henry Fa’Arodo.
Amazingly, scores were tied up before the half-time whistle when captain Doug Mladenovic stepped up to a free kick on the edge of the box.
He shot snuck in to send the Magic supporters into a frenzy.
Four goals in a half of football provided gave the fans there money worth, but they would not see another ball crash into the back-of-the-net for the remainder of the match.
Both defenses got on top and only a couple of chances were created by both teams, resulting in a 2-2 draw at full time. |
