A poor performance from Melbourne Knights and the Australian Institute of Sport provided a nil all draw at Knights reserve.
Andrew Barisic, Joe Spiteri and Stefan Piorkowski all had strikes on goal within the first 20 minutes but they never threatened the A.I.S keeper, Andrew Redmayne.
It took the Institute 26 minutes to have a shot on goal.
Again a long range attempt by Richard Greer went straight into Ante Loncaric’s hands.
Three minutes later, in form defender Ivan Franjic had to be substituted due to knee soreness.
Ten minutes from time the Institute started to get sloppy with Laurence Braude and Sam Gallaway both receiving yellow cards for dangerous tackles.
After a poor 1st half from both sides, the intensity had lifted up in the 2nd half.
Fifteen minutes into the half, Andrew Barisic blundered a golden opportunity.
A long throw-in from Dale Thompson got flicked onto Andrew Barisic and he then turned his defender inside the box and his shot went straight into the keepers hands.
With 15 minutes remaining Andrew Barisic wasted another opportunity.
A chipped in ball bounced to an unexpected Andrew Barisic and his attempt on goal went over the bar.
The Institute almost made the Knights pay for missing their chances but they also failed to finish.
First Michael De Bono missed a one on one and then with the last play of the game Daniel Taylor failed to finish, which left the final score at 0-0 and left the Knights disappointed after failing to take advantage of Green Gully’s defeat. |
