Floodlights leave match in the dark

Melbourne Knights F.C. posted on May 17, 2011 17:45 Article Rating

The Dandenong Thunder and Melbourne Knights clash at George Andrews Reserve was abandoned with the score at 0-0 after a floodlight failure in the 27th minute on Saturday evening.

The opening exchanges saw both teams push forward to create chances, with the home team taking advantage of set pieces and the Knights creating an opportunity for Yusuf Yusuf to fire a shot from just outside the box.

After just 27 minutes of play, the failure of the lights saw the referees call for players to gather in the middle of the rain sodden pitch before being escorted back into the change rooms.

A short time later, when it became evident that there was no way that the lighting issues could be resolved, the match was officially abandoned.

An announcement regarding the replaying of this fixture will be made as soon as reasonably possible.
