The Melbourne Knights Football Club would like to confirm the departure of Ben Surey as U20’s coach ahead of the 2021 NPL Victoria season.
Surey, having arrived at the club via England for the 2010 Victorian Premier League season, ingratiating himself at the club and becoming a constant feature of the first team in the last decade.
He played in over 120 league games for the club whilst also taking the reins of the relegation-threatened first team near the end of 2017, avoiding the drop as a player-coach on the last day of the season against Dandenong City. Following his retirement from football at the end of the 2018 season, Surey was appointed as U20’s coach in 2019, and demonstrated success in the role, finishing 6th on the ladder at seasons end. We wish Ben all the best in his future footballing endeavours.
The club would also like to announce the departure of Lachlan Armstrong as senior assistant coach ahead of the 2021 season.
Armstrong joined the club as assistant coach to Stuart Munro ahead of the 2020 season after spending the previous four years as head coach of the Melbourne City NPL team. Armstrong departs the club after accepting an offer from his former club, Melbourne City FC. We wish Lachlan all the best in his future footballing endeavours.
