2024 NPL Round 13 – Knights v Gully

The Knights are back at home this week as they take on Green Gully SC.

After an unsteady few weeks, culminating with the departure of Ben Surey, the Knights were able to bounce back and claim all three points against the Thunder. With a performance reminiscent of 2023, the side, led by Ivan Franjic as interim player/coach, made a statement about their resilience despite their recent performances.

Speaking after Friday’s game, Franjic mused that the side had ‘more to offer in the second half of the 2024 season’. With an improvement across the board, defensively to offensively, the Knights will be looking to back their Round 12 win when the Cavaliers come to Knights Stadium.

This week, once again, the Knights find themselves facing a side in a similar position to them and with a similar tale. Both sides saw a huge improvement in 2023, with Green Gully finishing on 40 points (seven behind the Knights), however this season, both sides have yet to hit their stride.

This season, like the Knights, Gully sits on 14 points, with four wins, two draws and six losses after 12 matches played. A far cry from their 2023 efforts, Gully sits one spot below Knights on the ladder, in 9th place. The match will see both sides vie for the three points in an effort to create some space against each other as both sit on 14 points.

While the Knights found some form last week with a 3-0 win over Dandenong Thunder and will look to take that into this week, Green Gully is on a three-match winning streak, with a 1-0 win against Avondale FC in Round 11, a win against Ballarat City in the Australia Cup, and handing Saint Albans Saints a 4-0 drubbing last week.

Unsurprisingly for Gully, Luca Tevere has been their most prolific in front of goal, with four to his name, followed by both Mohamad Adam and Josh Hope on three. The Knights should be weary of this attacking combo, as the Cavs, in all their wins this season, have twice beaten teams by scoring four goals in a single outing.

With both sides looking to climb their way up the table with a valuable three points on the line, we have no doubt this will be a game you won’t want to miss. Kick-off is at 7:30pm on Friday, 10 May. So get down and support the side as they look to turn it around as we approach the second half of the season.
