Melbourne Knights have bolstered their defensive stocks with the addition of A-League Championship winning centre back Ben Collins.
The 23-year-old defender arrives at Somers Street from Western United where he made six appearances and was part of the squad that won the 2022 A-League Grand Final.
Collins, who played his junior football at Northcote City was also the inaugural captain of United’s youth team, developing a reputation for his defensive strength and maturity beyond his years.
Collins joins a Knights defensive unit that’s kept seven clean sheets this season and currently sits fourth on the NPL Victoria ladder and is through to the final rounds of both the Australia Cup and Dockerty Cup.
After signing on in red, white and blue the central defender said he couldn’t wait to get started at Knights Stadium.
“I decided to come to Melbourne Knights as I believe it’s a proud club with a lot of history, as well as a club that plays an attractive brand of football that I believe suits my playing style,” Collins said.
“I also think working under Ben (Cahn) and his coaching staff will help me develop into a better player and person.
“My primary aim for the remainder of the season is to help the team achieve the most successful finish possible in all three competitions.
“Individually, I’m keen to develop under a new system and continuing to improve as a player.”
Collins, who will wear the number 36 jersey is available for selection for Saturday’s trip to Paisley Park to face Altona Magic in NPL Victoria Round 19 action.
