The Melbourne Knights Football first team competes in the Victorian National Premier League competition.
The Melbourne Knights senior men’s team began in 1953, becoming a member of the Victorian Soccer Federation in 1954. In the following years, the club quickly moved up the state league ranks. So much so, by the mid 1960s, Melbourne Croatia (at the time), was one of the strongest clubs in Victoria, winning the State League title in 1968. Following a number of years lobbying, Knights joined the National Soccer League in 1984.
By the 1990s, Knights had proven themselves more than adequate, making it to the NSL Grand Final 5 out of 6 seasons, and winning the championship twice (1994/5 and 1995/96). Following the 2004 dissolution of the NSL, Melbourne Knights joined the Victorian Premier League, where they have retained their position since.
