The Melbourne Knights Football Club Women’s Senior team competes in the Victorian State League 2 North West competition. The Melbourne Knights FC has always has a positive inclusion policy of women within the club, including at Board level. The first Melbourne Knights Women’s team began in 1997, but after a couple of seasons it ceased to exist.
In 2010, on the initiative of Sime Zupan and Wally Kulyk, the Melbourne Knights once again fielded a Women’s team in senior competition after many former players from sister club Melbourne Tornado wanted to align the team with the Melbourne Knights. In 2011, the team was taken over by current coach Tony Kolceg who has achieved very good results with the team, gaining promotion in consecutive seasons and only narrowly missing out on promotion in season 2013.
The Senior women’s aim is to gain promotion into the Victorian top division, the Women’s Premier League. As well as the Women’s seniors, the club fields three junior girl’s teams that feed into the senior team.
