Melbourne Knights Football Club would like to inform its members and supporters that it has been made aware that an opposition player who appeared in our Round 18 fixture against Port Melbourne SC should have been suspended and ineligible to play in that fixture.
It is our understanding that Football Victoria had been made aware prior to the Round 18 match that the player in question had appeared in an NPL Victoria match after receiving his 5th yellow card.
Despite this, the player was allowed to play in a further two NPL Victoria matches, with the most recent being in our Round 18 fixture.
It is important to note that during this time, two Melbourne Knights players were ineligible for this match after they had both accumulated 5 yellow cards and received a suspension notice, therefore missing out on the Round 18 fixture.
The club has reached out to Football Victoria and expect that an acceptable solution to the matter will be found in the interest of sporting integrity.
