Knights launch inaugural Knights Championship Cup!

The Melbourne Knights Football Club are excited to announce a new junior boys tournament – the Knights Championship Cup!

The Tournament, an initiative by Juniors Technical Director and Tournament Director Ivan Franjic, is set to be played at Somers Street during the second week of the term three school holidays between Tuesday 1st October 2024 and Sunday 6thOctober 2024.

The Tournament, made possible by the recent redevelopment of pitch 2 and 3 at Somers Street, will see all three full sizes pitches at Somers Street used and has been designed as an Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 junior boys tournament. Excitingly for the Club, Somers Street will play host 16 clubs, 64 teams and 1,152 players.

The Tournament has been designed to follow a classic tournament format, with a round robin group stage followed by knockout stages in the lead up to a final. Each age division will consist of four groups, each with four teams, with a total of 24 matches to be played in each group stage of each age division, totalling 96 group stage matches.

Each team will play for points in the group stages and teams in each group will be ranked based on the amount of points they have collected. The position a team places in the group stage dictates which knockout competition they enter.

The top two teams in each group stage across all age divisions will progress to the the Knights Championship Cup competition, while the bottom two teams in each group stage across all age divisions will progress through to the Knights Conference Plate competition, thus keeping all teams and players in the Tournament to at least the Quarter Final stage of the Tournament.

The knockout stages will each contain eight teams and occur in true knockout fashion, beginning at the Quarter Final stage and culminating with the Final.

Registrations are now open for would-be clubs who wish to take part in the inaugural tournament. To register, visit or email [email protected] for more information.
