2021 NPL Round 10 – Knights v Dandy City

After a hard-fought draw last weekend, the Melbourne Knights return to Knights Stadium this Friday night, to take on Dandenong City.

The Knights fell to fifth in the standings, despite last week’s 2-2 draw against Green Gully. In the meantime, our opponents Dandenong City managed a 1-1 draw against league leaders, South Melbourne. Despite sitting in the relegation zone, City held on to claim a miraculous point.

The Knights failed to hold onto a late lead against Green Gully. After scoring late through Mathew Breeze, Gully managed to score even later, scrambling the ball over the line through Alex Salmon. The thrilling 2-2 draw saw the Knights take a point back to Somers Street.

Dandenong City impressed the league last week, with a 1-1 draw at home against league leaders, South Melbourne. After taking a first-half lead through Marko Delic, all City had to do was hold on. South Melbourne came in full force in the second half, and Daniel Clark equalised for the visitors, keeping South Melbourne undefeated.

The last time these sides faced, Dandenong City reaped the rewards, defeating the Knights 2-0 at Knights Stadium. A brace for Brendon Santalab secured the three points for the away side, who went on to finish the 2019 NPL Victoria season in 7th – one spot above the Knights.
