Friendship Cup 2017

The 11th instalment of the annual Friendship Cup kicks off this Sunday, with the Melbourne Knights welcoming sister club Sydney United to Knights Stadium.

Having commenced in 2005, the annual fixture serves as a final competitive hit-out for both outfits on the eve of the season proper.

Sydney United hold current bragging rights having successfully claimed the title for 5 successive years, with a total of 7 wins to just 3 of the Knights.

The visitors credentials are strengthened further having completed a treble last season taking home the NSW Premiership, Waratah Cup & NPL Championship. Remarkably United were also invited by Chinese powerhouse club and current home of Carlos Tevez, Shanhai Shenua for a week long pre-season camp and friendly.

Former Captain and fan-favourite Tomislav Uskok will line up for the first time against the Knights, having switched Melbourne for Sydney last year and will no-doubt be a pivotal component to new head coach Davor Bajsic’s side.

The fixture also allows fans to get a first glimpse of Andrew Marth’s new signings which include renowned goal scorer Tom Cahill and former Australian under 23 international Jake Barker Daish.

Memberships will also be available to purchase from the club office.
