The Melbourne Knights will plan to stay top of the league, when they return to Somers Street for a mid-week fixture against Heidelberg United FC on Wednesday, March 31.
Following the Knights’ nail-biting 1-all draw last weekend; the lads will have to regroup quickly for their clash with Heidelberg United.
Last week, the Knights escaped with a point in the dying stages of their round five encounter with Avondale FC. A Caleb Mikulic header in the 92nd minute saved the Knights at the death, allowing them to remain perched at the top of the table.
Mikulic’s third goal for the season slides him into equal first on the goal-scoring standings for the 2021 NPL Victoria season.
Heidelberg United’s most recent fixture saw them edge past last-placed Dandenong City, 2-1. It was a solid start for Heidelberg, going up 2-0 in the opening 6 minutes, thanks to two goals from Eoin Ashton, who also sits equal-first on the league’s goal-scoring charts.
That win pushes Heidelberg United up into 5th, one of the five teams currently on 8 points, two points shy of the Melbourne Knights at the top.
The last time these sides faced, Heidelberg were victorious 1-0, back in 2019. Harry Noon netted for Heidelberg in the 80th minute, to claim all three points.
The 2019 season saw Heidelberg finish at the top of the table; however, they were later knocked out in the semi-finals by the Bentleigh Greens, who went on to be crowned champions.
The boys will be back at Knights Stadium this week, get on down and show your support for the lads as they attempt to stay top of the league.
