2021 NPL Round 9 – Gully v Knights

The Melbourne Knights will use their momentum from last week’s victory into their round 9 clash against Green Gully, when they face on Friday night.

The Knights have jumped up into fourth in the NPL Victoria standings after their nail-biting last-minute win against Altona, overtaking the Oakleigh Cannons in the meantime. Green Gully drew 1-1 with Dandenong City last week, which sees them comfortably in sixth position.

The Knights survived a late comeback from the Altona Magic last week, thanks to Gian Albano converting a spot kick in extra time. Trevor Ssemakula showed positive signs, linking up swiftly with Alun Webb for the opener.

In Green Gully’s draw with Dandenong City, all of the action was in the first half. Dandenong took the lead after 18 minutes, with Green Gully finding an equaliser just before half time. Both teams unfortunately couldn’t find a winner in the second half, sharing the spoils.

These sides last faced in the 2019 NPL Victoria season, with the match resulting in a 1-1 draw in Keilor Downs. In a tight encounter, the Knights took the lead through Anthony Duzel. They struggled to hold onto the lead for long, as Green Gully equalised 12 minutes later, which saw the sides share the points.

Be there at Green Gully Reserve on Friday to give the Knights a boost in yet another all-important match!
