The Melbourne Knights will travel to the Eastern suburbs this weekend, to face Dandenong Thunder.
Fresh from their Australia Cup victory during the week, the Knights will rally together once again this week after a quick turnaround between matches.
The Knights advanced past the Bulleen Lions 2-0, in round five of the Australia Cup earlier in the week. A goal at the end of both halves from Gian Albano was enough to keep the visitors at bay, and send the Knights to the next round.
In the Knights last NPL outing, the side left it late against the struggling Eastern Lions, at home. The floodgates opened in the final ten minutes of the game as goals from Lionel Masudi, Mohammad Sumaoro and Albano squeezed the Knights over the line.
The Thunder on the other hand have their Australia Cup duties next week, which gives them a slight advantage going into the match. However, their last match resulted in a 2-0 loss to the Bentleigh Greens in round nine of the NPL Victoria season, which saw them slip to 9th place on the ladder. Much like the Knights, two very late goals from the Greens disabled the Thunder’s chances of taking any points home.
The last time these sides faced competitively, the Knights were victorious 2-1 at home after an Alun Webb brace kept the Thunder at bay, despite a late goal from the visitors. The Thunder haven’t beaten the Knights since August of 2019 and they will be hungry to get one over the Knights this time around at home. The Knights on the other hand sit in seventh on the ladder and will be eager to lock in their current form after the two back to back wins. Airns
Cross the city and support the Knights tonight in round ten action, with kick off at 7pm!
