2022 NPL Round 4 – Knights v Bentleigh

The Melbourne Knights return to Somers Street on a mission to capture their first win on home soil when they take on the Bentleigh Greens in tomorrow nights clash!

Round 3 saw the Knights suffer their second loss of the season, this time falling 2-0 on the road to long time Derby rivals South Melbourne FC. A goal in each half for South secured them the three points, sending the Knights home empty handed.

Last week, the Bentleigh Greens were able to secure their first win of the season against fellow Greek side, Heidelberg United, defeating the side 1-0. A Pierce Waring penalty in t

he final ten minutes of the game was enough to do the job despite the nervy circumstances.

Both sides enter the match on relatively equal footing, with each side secure one win and two losses in the three rounds played to date. Unpacking further, both sides have drawn Avondale and South Melbourne in the opening NPL rounds and both the Knights and Bentleigh have each suffered losses to these team. Despite the parity in results, the Knights sit two spots higher than 10th placed Bentleigh due to goal difference.

The Knights should pay particular attention to number ten Pierce Warning, who has managed to score in two out of three outings for his side.

The last time these sides faced, Bentleigh cruised to the three points in style, knocking the Knights over 5-1 in Cheltenham. The Greens raced to a 3-0 half-time lead, before slowing things down marginally in the second half.
