2023 NPL Round 12 – Thunder v Knights

Melbourne Knights go in search of their seventh win of the 2023 NPL Victoria campaign when they go head-to-head with Dandenong Thunder at George Andrews Reserve on Saturday night.

Knights, who sit fourth on the league table heading into the weekend’s Round 12 action played out a 1-1 draw with Hume City in their most recent outing.

Luka Kolic netted his first goal of the season to open the scoring before a 95th minute equaliser denied Knights all three points at the death.

Despite the disappointment of Sunday’s late setback Knights remain undefeated at home this season and sit seven points clear of seventh placed Hume City as with the halfway mark of the 2023 NPL Victoria campaign quickly approaching.

Thunder currently sit eight points adrift of Knights in ninth position on the league table with thirteen points to their name so far this season.

Thunder come into Saturday’s clash after suffering a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Green Gully in last weekend’s Round 11 action.

Saturday’s match will be the thirteenth NPL Victoria meeting between Knights and Thunder with Knights winning on four occasions, Thunder six and there having been two draws between the pair.

A Deniz Yildiz penalty in second half stoppage time separated the sides in the most recent clash between the pair which finished in a 2-1 win for Thunder at Somers Street in July last year.

Knights midfielder, Mitch Hore who made a return from injury via the bench in last week’s matches against Green Gully and Hume is in line to make his 50th NPL Victoria appearance at George Andrews Reserve on Saturday night.

Saturday’s match kicks off a busy week for Ben Cahn’s side who face Box Hill United at Wembley Park in Australia Cup Preliminary Round 5 action on Tuesday night before hosting Heidelberg United at Somers Street in league action on Friday.

Saturday’s match at George Andrews Reserve kicks off at 7:15pm and will be live streamed on NPL.TV.
