NPL R9 Preview – Kingston City FC v Melbourne Knights FC

The Knights are on the road again as they travel south east of Melbourne to face off against 12th placed Kingston City FC in round nine of the Victorian NPL. After suffering a blundering defeat in front of a home crowd at the hands of Green Gully FC, the Knights will be gunning for nothing short of a convincing win to carry them through into the middle of the season, as nine rounds will signify being exactly a third of the way through the 2018 NPL season.

With the bureau forecasting a top of 18°C with cloudy skies and a low chance of rain, conditions will be ripe for a fiery match-up between the two squads.

Kingston City enter round nine also on the back of a round eight loss to Northcote City FC. The previous eight rounds have seen Kingston City FC amass a mere six points; from two wins and six losses, giving them their current table position of 12th. However, both of their wins have come from defeating the bottom two teams in the competition, Hume City FC and FC Bulleen Lions.

For the Knights, with a season that hasn’t begun ideally, round nine marks an important game for the team as they look to avoid a third consecutive loss.

Thus far, the squad has accumulated two wins out of a possible eight. A third win for the Knights in round nine could see the team jump back into the top half of the table to seventh position. However, with star striker Kym Harris sidelined with injury, Asanovic and his men will need to work doubly hard in order to correct their current goal difference.

Given that both sides have only won twice this season, its clear that the two teams will not be playing for a draw. With everything to play for and three points on the line, a strong win could be the remedy that the Knights need to turn their season around.
