Melbourne Knights FC is pleased to confirm the signing of former junior Joshua Brekalo ahead of the 2015 PS4 NPL Victoria season.
The 22-year-old returns to the Club where he spent almost all his junior days after stints at Richmond SC, HNK Strathmore Split and a three year spell at St Albans Dinamo.
The midfielder was scouted by head coach Andrew Marth after a successful 2014 Australia & New Zealand Croatian Soccer Tournament with Strathmore, where the youngster helped his side to the Division Two championship.
Brekalo has been with the Knights throughout the 2015 pre-season, playing in the Club’s practice games against Green Gully SC, Sydney United 58 FC and Pascoe Vale SC.
Speaking to melbourneknights.com.au, Brekalo said he was excited about his return to Somers Street.
“I’m looking forward to it,’ Brekalo said.
“It’s a big Club with a lot of history and I played here as a junior.
“Because I’m of Croatian background, it means a lot – you get to represent your own background [and] as a kid I was always brought up to come watch games in the old NSL and I went on to play juniors here because that’s where I wanted to play.”
“My personal hopes are probably just to get a regular spot in the team and work from there – do whatever you can for the Club and that’s it.”
Brekalo and his new teammates start the new season at home to Avondale FC on Friday, February 20th, with kick off at 8.30PM at Knights Stadium.
