Micky says thanks

The following is a statement from 2011 Melbourne Knights U21 coach Micky Colina, who requested an opportunity to express his thanks.

“As some of you might be aware, I have accepted the position as Senior Coach at St Albans Saints Dinamo for the upcoming season. It was a very difficult decision for me, but in the end it was the chance to coach at senior level that swayed me, and it was a great opportunity to further develop my coaching portfolio.

My time at Melbourne Knights was awesome and it will be a year that I remember forever and one that will always stand proud in my coaching ‘scrapbook’. I was honoured to have been given the chance to coach and help mould the U/21 group and the boys didn’t let me or the club down. I was very proud to have been part of that; they are a great bunch of lads with a bright future in football.

Then to have been entrusted by the club to lead the senior group at the Croatian National Soccer Tournament in Sydney and to win the tournament just topped the year off. I want to thank all the players, both those from the U/21s and the senior group who made these experiences all that more special for me. I thank them for their professionalism, passion, commitment and friendship and know that the club will prosper even further.

The fans that supported the club and me and made me feel at home from the first minute I entered the ground, I thank you, it’s you guys that keep the club and the spirit alive, don’t ever let that disappear. I also need to thank the senior coaching staff, the physio and of course my long time friend Rus.
But last, but by no means least, I sincerely thank the Melbourne Knights committee who gave me the opportunity to coach at the club. You guys do so much work, a lot of it is not seen and at times, not appreciated but you always keep on working and only have the club’s interests at heart. You guys are the heart of the club and I hope everyone realises that.

I guess that’s it for now, I will miss everyone there, that’s for sure, but I will still be around, just not as a coach I suppose, but a member, supporter and long time friend. I hope I didn’t bore you too much but I really felt I needed to pass on this message, thanks for taking the time to have a read.

Take care and see you guys around,
Micky Colina”

The Melbourne Knights would like to thank Micky Colina for his contributions and achievements over the last 12 months and wish him every success in this new chapter in his career. A decision regarding the much sought after, newly vacant U21 position for the 2012 season will be made shortly.
