Shot-stopper Rani Dowisha calls Somers Street home

Melbourne Knights are very excited to announce talented shot-stopper Rani Dowisha as the next signing moving into the 2019 NPL season.

Rani joins the club after spending 2018 with Altona Magic Soccer Club, helping them seal crucial points to gain promotion yet again, this time into NPL Victoria, after advancing from State League 1 into NPL Victoria 2 at the end of 2017.

After spending a valiant time with amateur side South Springvale Aris and gaining popularity during Aris’ “magic-of-the-cup” style FFA Cup run in 2014, Dowisha has gone on to improve his own skill-set, as well as bring a fresh outlook to clubs where he has signed on, who have all experienced varying successes with the 26-year-old.

After making it to the Dockerty Cup Final in 2014 with South Springvale and being defeated by Melbourne Knights in the final minute after an all-too-memorable stunning 119th minute goal by Tomislav Uskok, Dowisha took a huge step up and entered the realm of NPL football, signing with Green Gully SC.

After playing for a season with Green Gully, it seemed as though his first team position was being put to the test, as Alistair Bray arrived at the club – however once Bray received a call from A-League side Central Coast Mariners, Dowisha was back on deck under new coach Arthur Papas as first choice gloveman, where he flourished for another season.

In November 2017, Dowisha signed with newly promoted (to NPL Victoria 2) side Altona Magic SC, where he spent the remainder of 2017 and 2018 helping Magic continue pushing for a spot in Victoria’s top tier. They succeeded and finished in first place, 11 points clear of St Albans Saints, meaning that Dowisha will be seeing some familiar faces when Magic face the Knights during the 2019 NPL season.

The club would like to welcome Rani to Somers Street and we wish him all the best for the season ahead.

Stay tuned for a full-scale interview with Rani on Knights TV in the coming weeks.
