For the third consecutive season Melbourne Knights FC embarked on a pre-season training camp in Echuca-Moama. The trip is aimed at giving back to the country community whilst strengthening team bonding and fitness levels.
Arriving on Friday afternoon, head coach Andrew Marth was quick to put the players through their paces.
“The facilities here are excellent, and the Echuca-Moama community are very welcoming”, describes Marth.
“The trip allows us to work on our structures and team bonding. I’ve always been highly critical that everyone gets along in a team environment and this annual trip has been working for us thus far”.
After an intense Saturday morning training session, the coaching and playing staff held a clinic for the local children from the Echuca-Moama Border Raiders SC. Over thirty kids ranging from ages 6-14 took part in the program, which has seen a steady increase in participating numbers over the years as football gains in popularity.
The final day of the trip saw the Knights take on the Echuca-Moama Border Raiders senior team in a friendly. Stipo Andrijasevic netted six goals as the visitors ran riot securing a 13-1 win, with Andrew Marth taking plenty of positives out of the match and trip as a whole.
“It was good to get the ball in the back of the net and it gives the whole team confidence. The fitness levels of the squad are where they should be and the structure is looking really good”.
Final Score: Echuca-Moama Border Raiders 1-13 Melbourne Knights (Andrijasevic 6, Jurcic 2, Purcell 2, Colosimo, Batur, Own Goal)
