A hungry and determined Melbourne Knights squad will travel to Olympic Village this Saturday evening, to try and bring a halt to a high-flying Heidelberg United outfit in round six of the Victorian National premiere League. The Knights will be coming into this match-up full of vigour after their emphatic Melbourne Derby win over South Melbourne FC last Friday night.
The match, scheduled for this Saturday the 14th of April will see the Knights on the road again, traveling to Heidelberg’s home at Olympic Village, with seniors kicking-off in the sunset slot at 5pm. Both teams will enter this week’s fixture coming off the back of wins, with Heidelberg United defeating Northcote City away one-nil in round six.
After six rounds of the NPL, the home side, undefeated in the five matches they’ve played, currently sit in 3rd place with 15 points, after their round two match against FC Bulleen Lions was postponed. Their most common score line in the their last five matches has been one-nil, occurring in three out of those five matches.
The Knights go into round seven coming off the back of the Derby win against South Melbourne FC, which gave the Knights a crucial 3 points and awarded them a position in the top half of the NPL table. The Knights currently sit in 7th place on 8 points after an even split of two wins, two losses and two draws. The match against South Melbourne was a turnaround match for a Knights squad returning home, after 3 weeks on the road. With momentum being an important factor going into the game against Heidelberg, Asanovic’s men will be raring to take the battle to one of the league’s strongest competitors.
With nearly a third of the NPL fixture already played, supporters of both clubs will be reminded of the hostility of ladder jumping no matter what the result. For Heidelberg, a loss will see them remain in third position. However, for Knights, a win could see the side jump from seventh place to fourth place.
Fans are reminded of the change of kick-off time, with the fixture now locked in with U20s beginning at 3pm, and the senior mens squad kicking-off directly after at 5pm.
