The Knights return to action tomorrow night in the newly renamed FFA Cup – the Australia Cup – facing off against State League 1 side Boroondara Eagles.
Coming off the back of a disappointing loss to Heidelberg, the Knights were dominated in passion within the first half, leading to Heidelberg’s opening two goals.
Adrian Zahra broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, and the pressure did not concede on the Knights, as Sean Ellis doubled the lead before the end of the first half.
Heidelberg continued to be gargantuan when the second half resumed, with another flurry of goals in quick succession to extend their lead as the match ended 4-0 to the visitors.
After some much needed soul searching, the side returned to training this week, hoping to put the last weeks result out of mind. Speaking on the result, skipper Ayden Brice offered that “the side was gutted with the outcome, especially in front of the home crowd” and that they “need to be more ruthless in front of goal and to take the chances as they came.”
The Knights have drawn the Boroondara Eagles for this round four Cup fixture. Competing in the Victorian Mens State League 1 South-East, the Eagles have their historic roots in the Italian footballing community. Despite the Knights having five competitive matches under their belt already, the Eagles have only just begun their 2022 league campaign, playing their first match of the season last Friday night away to the Eltham Redbacks.
The match is scheduled to be played on neutral ground for both sides, with the Veneto Club in Bulleen playing host to the teams. Kick-off is tipped for 8:30pm.
Come out and support the Knights tomorrow night Knights fans and help propel the club to the next round of the Australia Cup!
