PREVIEW: Bentleigh Greens v. Knights

Melbourne Knights’ search for three points continues with a daunting task away to Bentleigh Greens tonight at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex.

Having dropped points late in their opening two games, Andrew Marth’s men now face arguably the toughest away trip in the league.

Bentleigh Greens have picked up maximum points from their opening two games, having defeated Green Gully and North Geelong and are already setting the pace on top of the NPL ladder.

Recent history is also against the Knights’, who’ve collected just 1 point from their last 5 matches against the Greens. Their last win coming in 2014, a year which saw the Knights defeat Bentleigh in an epic Dockerty Cup semi-final.

An interesting sub-plot to the match will no doubt be ex-Knights pair Stipo Andrijasevic & Nick Glavan,  who will run out for the first time against their former club. Glavan spent only one season with the Knights however was a stand-out performer at right back, while Stipo Andrijasevic scored 21 goals in 61 games in a 3-year spell with the club. Andrijasevic has yet to make his debut for new club, Bentleigh, due to injury.

Fraser Chalmers will miss out again due to his suspension. Nikola Jurkovic remains the only other Knights player in doubt to face the Greens, after hobbling off the pitch late against Pascoe Vale last week. Tomislav Fadljevic may be called up to fill the gap, with Milan Batur and Patrick Gerhardt closing in on their imminent return to the senior team.
