Melbourne Knights new head coach Eric Vassiliadis will face a stern test for his home debut, as the Knights welcome 2nd placed Bentleigh Greens to Knights Stadium on Friday night.
Vassiliadis took positives from last week’s 2-1 loss to Pascoe Vale, with his squad adapting well to a change of structure and withstanding early pressure from our opponents to take a half time lead. Unfortunately a ten minute spell in the second half saw the home side overturn the deficit to claim victory.
Marijan Cvitkovic & Patrick Gerhardt were second half substitutes again and will be staking their claims for a starting berth having gained much needed match fitness.
The Knights announced their first signing of the mid-season transfer window with youngster Anthony Duzel returning to the club after spells with Pascoe Vale and Melbourne Victory’s Youth side.
Bentleigh Greens look to have recovered from a slight slip in form recording back to back victories to move back up to 2nd spot on the ladder.
They will take extra confidence heading into this fixture having kept 2 consecutive clean sheets in the league, whilst also booking their place in the final 32 of the FFA Cup National Stage.
Matt Thurtell and Ross Honos have been pivotal to Bentleigh’s season having combined for a total of 14 goals this season.
Melbourne Knights snapped a 5 game winless streak against the Greens in an upset 3-1 win away in Round 3 this season, which was arguably the best performance the Knights have had this campaign.
Although, recent history between the sides doesn’t read well for the Knights, with their last victory over Bentleigh at home coming in 2014.
