Melbourne Knights are delighted to confirm that Corey Sewell has returned to Somers Street ahead of the 2023 NPL Victoria season.
The 26-year-old defender, who is equally adept playing in midfield is back at Knights after spending the last three seasons at Bentleigh Greens.
In 2022 Sewell was crowned as the Greens Players’ Player in a season that included a Dockerty Cup win and run to the Australia Cup Round of 16.
The hard-nosed defender, who’s equally capable with the ball at his feet returns for a second stint at Knights Stadium, having been part of the side that reached the 2019 Australia Cup Round of 32.
This won’t be the first time Sewell has played for new Knights Head Coach Ben Cahn, with the defender spending the back end of the 2020 COVID affected campaign at Olympic, earning a spot in the competition’s Team of the Season and reaching the NPL Queensland Grand Final.
Sewell said he excited by the potential of the Knights squad being assembled ahead of the upcoming season.
“I’m excited to be back at Knights and working under Ben (Cahn),” Sewell said.
“I’ve played for him before, which I really enjoyed, we’re left with some unfinished business and are keen to win some trophies.
“I’ve played for Knights before, so I know what they’re about, it’s a quality club.
“Ben joining as well was a big factor, with the players that have come in, we’ve got a team to go a long way this year.”
Sewell, who will wear the number 4 jersey joins Ivan & Joey Franjic, Gian Albano, Steve Whyte and Chris Oldfield as Knights sixth confirmed signing ahead of the 2023 NPL Victoria season
