The falcon lands at Somers Street!

The Melbourne Knights are delighted to announce another exciting addition to the 2022 squad, Steve Sokol.

Fresh from Western Australia, the attacking forward arrives to Somers Street from NPL WA side, Inglewood United Football Club, his former club of the past three seasons.

Upon his arrival, Sokol mentioned that he “really liked what [Steve] Bebic had to say about the direction and goals of the club for the upcoming season and the role that I can play in achieving that”.

After spending his whole senior career in Western Australia, beginning at Balcatta in the 2015 NPL WA season. He then earned a move to the Sterling Lions in the 2017 season, before settling at Inglewood United in 2019 – for three seasons.

The prolific soon-to-be 27 year-old has frequently found himself in front of goal and scoring in each season, highlighted by his most recent 2021 season, where he notched up an impressive 18 goals from 13 starts.

Sokol

In a season that saw Inglewood finish fifth in the league, Sokol assisted the club to become the second-highest scoring NPL WA club that season. Sokol also claimed the 2021 top goal-scorer in the NPL WA, with his feat of 18 goals – three goals clear of the next best.

With his ear to the ground, Sokol has heard a lot of positive comments about the Knights prior to his arrival, stating “it was an easy decision when I had the opportunity to sign for the Knights”. He continued, “The league is obviously one of the best and most competitive in Australia, below the A-League”. Further mentioning that he is “excited to be here and for the season to get started”.

Speaking on his personal contributions to the team, Sokol declared, “I just want to make sure I’m available every week and playing as many games as possible. I want to score and be involved in the goals too, so if I can replicate what I did last season in WA then that would be an added bonus”.

In an attempt to emblazon himself with the fan base, Sokol says, “hopefully we can push for the league title and win some silverware, that has to be the main goal”

Everyone at the Melbourne Knights welcomes Steve to Somers Street and is excited to see him perform in the 2022 season!
