2023 NPL Round 23 – Gully v Knights

Melbourne Knights aim to secure their spot in the 2023 NPL Victoria finals series with a win against Green Gully at Green Gully Reserve on Friday night.

Three points in Friday’s Round 23 clash will see Ben Cahn’s side seal a finals football return for the first time since 2015.

Knights currently sit fourth on the NPL Victoria ladder on 41 points, seven clear of Gully who occupy seventh position.

Knights current points tally has only been bettered once in the club’s time in the NPL with Ben Cahn’s side closing in on the 50-point club record set in 2015.

A club goals record is also in the current Knights side sights with their return of 43 so far this season only two shy of a club record tally of 45 scored in 2018.

Knights come into Friday’s clash off a pair of back-to-back league wins including a 2-1 triumph over Moreland City in their most recent outing.

Ciaran Bramwell and Gian Albano’s eighth and seventh league goals of the season respectively earned all three points for Ben Cahn’s side.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers kept themselves firmly in the race for finals football with a 1-0 win on the road against Hume City thanks to a James Doyle strike.

Knights defeated Gully 3-2 when the pair met in the reverse fixture at Knights Stadium in Round 10 with Ciaran Bramwell bagging a brace while Mohammed Sumaoro was also on target in a frantic finish that also saw Gully score twice in the final six minutes.

Knights round 10 victory over Gully saw them edge ahead of the Cavaliers on the head-to-head between the two with Knights having won seven, Gully six and there having been three draws from the 16 previous NPL Victoria matches between the pair.

Friday’s Round 23 clash at Green Gully Reserve kicks off at 8pm and will be live streamed on NPL.TV.
