2021 NPL Round 14 – Knights v Sharks

As the competition enters the second half of the season, the Melbourne Knights will want to avoid a third consecutive loss when they take on The Port Melbourne Sharks.

Round 12 and 13 losses to the Bentleigh Greens and the Eastern Lions have unfortunately forced the Knights down the table into 7th position. Oppositely, the Port Melbourne Sharks are enjoying a 3-match unbeaten run, as they sit in 8th in the standings – two points behind the Knights.

Last week, the Knights fell short to the newly promoted Eastern Lions, two goals to one. The Knights equalised late through Gian Albano, but with both sides pushing for an eventual winner, the Knights pulled the short straw. An unbeatable effort from long range gave the Lions all three points, and their third win of the season in the dying moments.

Sharks

The Sharks enjoyed a 2-0 win over the struggling, last-placed Dandenong City. The Sharks scored a goal in both halves, before cruising to claim all three points. Their round 13 victory extends their unbeaten run to three matches.

The Knights and Sharks have already battled it out this season, in the season opener back in February. The Knights were victorious on the night, 1-nil winners at JL Murphy Reserve. Gian Albano opened his account for the season in the 17th minute, before the Knights were reduced to 10 men when Nikola Jurkovic saw red soon after. The Knights holding on for more than a half, claiming all three points.

We’ll be back at Knights Stadium for the second week in a row, so make sure to be there to back your Knights as they hope to join the winner’s list again.
