Melbourne Knights defeated Pascoe Vale 0-2 at Hosken Reserve in the Round Two clash of the National Premier League Victoria competition.
Two second half goals by Jacob Colosimo, and some heroic goalkeeping by Chris May, proved to be the difference on the night.
Colosimo scored his first in the 65th minute from the penalty spot.
James McGarry was fouled by Pascoe Vale goalkeeper Stefan Sardelic in the box; before Colosimo stepped up and sent Pascoe Vale’s custodian the wrong way, placing the ball into the bottom right corner.
The game was put beyond doubt in the 87th minute, when Colosimo did well to control a long ball from defence, before running into the area and blasting past Sardelic.
The scoreline could have easily been different, but for a goalkeeping master class by Chris May. In the 54th minute, Pascoe Vale looked certain to score when Joseph Youssef was played in on goal. May, however, stepped up and saved the initial shot, then followed it up with three more to deny Youssef again and Davey van’t Schip.
The win was the Knights second in a row, after defeating Northcote in the opening round, and will give Andrew Marth’s squad plenty of confidence heading into next round’s match against Werribee.
Melbourne Knights take on Werribee City next Sunday, 6 April. Kick off at Knights Stadium is at 3:00pm.
