Dobson Reserve is located at 37 Churchill Avenue, Maidstone – less than 3km’s from the Melbourne Knights FC home base in North Sunshine and was secured as a home ground and training venue for the club’s burgeoning junior section.
Previously, Dobson Reserve was used by local club Sunshine George Cross, a club that the Knights share a good relationship with, as well as similar histories.
George Cross was granted use of Dobson Reserve by the Sunshine Council in 1983 following the amalgamation of George Cross and Sunshine City.

The ground at that time was a far cry from what is available today with nothing but a water pipe for a fence around the perrimeter of the ground.

There were no club rooms, changing facilities, lights or any other facilities that the youngsters take for granted in today’s day and age.

Slowly but surely council recognised the need for things to change as the world game began to overtake the indigenous games of AFL and Cricket with a speed never before seen or predicted.

The erection of long awaited changing rooms including toilets and a kiosk in the early 1990’s were a godsend and a credit to Maribyrnong Council. In later years lights were erected which also improved the facility for the use of the local and wider community.

The Melbourne Knights Junior Football Club continues to work in conjunction with the City of Maribyrnong to maintain and improve the facility for the future of the venue, the sport in the region and the legacy of both organisations.
