The Melbourne Knights will plan to stretch their lead at the top of the NPL VIC table, when they take on Avondale FC on Saturday, March 27.
Following last week’s enthralling 3-nil win against Hume City, the Knights will hope to continue this run of form, as well as defend top spot of the NPL Victoria.
Last week, the Knights returned to winning ways, defeating Hume City at Knights Stadium. Both sides struggled to trouble their opposing keepers in the first half, but the game burst wide open in the second. Hume City going down to 10 men with just over half-an-hour on the clock, gave the Knights enough time to break the deadlock and open the floodgates.
Second-half goals from Caleb Mikulic, Gian Albano and Mohammed Sumaoro secured the three points for the home side, allowing them to go back to the top of the competition in style.
Avondale FC were also winners last week, in quite convincing fashion. Defeating a deflated Dandenong City four goals to one, away from home. Four separate goal scorers for Avondale saw them ease past their opposition in the second half, despite a late penalty which was converted, going against them in the 75th minute.
The last time these sides faced, the Knights struggled severely away from home, as Avondale ran over the top of them, compromising a devastating 6-1 score line. This fixture was the final game each side played in the 2020 NPL Victoria season, before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Knights will be out for revenge this weekend, in an attempt to keep top spot in the league. Be sure to be there on Saturday afternoon to cheer the lads on, as they look to extend their run of good form.
