The Melbourne Knights will be eager to get back onto the pitch following last week’s postponement, as they face the Altona Magic in round 12 of the NPL Victoria season.
Last week, the Knights v Cannons game at Somers Street was postponed due to torrential rain logging the group with water. Play was paused twice as officials assessed the pitch for playability however, the match was ultimately postponed, with both teams now holding a game in hand.
This week’s opposition – the Magic – played out a 0-0 draw with the Bentleigh Greens in round 1. The Magic have been held scoreless since their round 8 clash against Dandenong City, where they won 2-0 at home. Since then, it has been almost a month since they hit they’ve been able to hit the scoreboard.
For the Knights, given the postponement of last weeks game, the round 11 suspensions of Jack Mart and Thiery Iradukunda have carried over into this match.
When these sides last faced, the Knights were victorious 2-1 at home. The Knights took a 1-0 lead into the half time break, before a late surge from the Magic almost secured them a point. A 91st minute goal from the Magic’s Chris Lucas put them right back in the game, however they were denied in the 94th minute, when Gian Albano netted the winner for the Knights.
In their history against each other in the NPL Victoria competition, the Magic are yet to take any points off the Knights, in the three games that they have played.
Make sure to back the boys this Saturday night, when the Knights travel to Altona, in hopes of surging forward for a top six position.
