Upcoming tomorrow night, the Knights play their round 21 catch-up game against Green Gully.
Last week, the Knights were ultimately knocked out of finals contention, following a 3-1 defeat to the hands of the Oakleigh Cannons. A late consolation goal from non-other then Gian Albano gave the Knights something to smile about. Albano is currently the 5th most prolific scorer in the league.
Our opponents survived a late scare against Heidelberg United last week. Two goals in either half had Green Gully comfortably in the lead. In the 94th minute, Heidelberg drew one back, but there was not enough time to equalise. The win extends Green Gully’s winning streak to three straight.
With finals hopes are no longer at stake, the Knights will be hoping to to end their season on a high. Green Gully sit five points clear in the top six, currently in fourth position.
A hungry Gully side have ample attacking assets that the Knights will want to keep an eye on, those being the duo of Luc Jeggo and Nahuel Bonada, who have both scored seven goals each this season.
When these sides last faced, late drama ensued as Green Gully won 2-1 at home. After scoring early, Green Gully led for the entirety of the match. In the 87th minute, Gully had doubled their lead, but the Knights were not done with. With one minute remaining in the 90, Lionel Masudi put the Knights back into the match to start a chaotic additional time period. It wasn’t meant to be as the Knights couldn’t pull another one back.
The Knights haven’t been able to beat Green Gully since 2019, so a win tomorrow night will surely lift the spirts of fans in attendance!
