The Melbourne Knights know three points against bottom placed Hume City could push them into the top four.
The Knights face an embattled Hume City at home this week, with the side looking to keep Hume without a win this 2022 NPL season.
In round six Hume faced the Bentleigh Greens at home, which resulted in a close 3–4 loss for Hume. After a strong start by Bentleigh, Hume managed to claw their way back into the match scoring three goals in the last twenty-five minutes, however the titanic effort wasn’t enough, leaving Hume with two draws and four losses and sitting last.
The Knights return home to Somers Street after a convincing 2-0 away win to rivals St Albans. It took the Knights sixty minutes to break the deadlock with a sensational goal by Mohammad Sumaoro. Followed shortly after with a second by Gian Albano securing the three points for the Knights, moving them to sixth on the table.
The last time the two sides faced each other was in round 17 of the 2021 NPL season. The nail-biting match ended in a 3–2 victory for the Knights. The Knights took control of the game with two goals in the first half. The second half was all about Hume, scoring two goals in five minutes to level the scores before going down to ten men when John McGuigan got sent off in the 82nd minute. The situation went from bad to worse for Hume when Pat Langlois scored an own goal in the 88th minute, handing Knights the three points.
