2023 NPL Round 10 – Knights v Gully

Melbourne Knights look to continue their unbeaten home start to the season when they go head-to-head with Green Gully in NPL Victoria Round 10 action at Knights Stadium on Monday night. 

Monday’s match pits fourth against fifth with Knights sitting two points ahead of the Cavaliers nine rounds into the new NPL Victoria season.

Ben Cahn’s side come into Monday’s match having won six of their last seven in all competitions including a 4-1 victory on the road against Moreland City in their most recent outing.

Knights leading scorer, Gian Albano netted his fourth and fifth league goals of the season while Corey Sewell and Felipe Sanchez were also on target in a commanding victory at CB Smith Reserve.

Albano’s brace in Saturday’s win takes the club’s all-time leading NPL Victoria scorers tally to 31 goals from 80 league appearances in red, white and blue.

Saturday’s win at City saw Knights leapfrog Gully on the table into fourth position after the Cavaliers suffered a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Hume City on Friday night.

Monday’s match will be the sixteenth meeting at NPL Victoria level between Knights and Gully with the club’s winning six matches apiece and drawing three times in their previous clashes.

Knights came out on top in the most recent match between the two, running out 2-0 winners at Somers Street in the August last year thanks to goals from Dylan Murnane and Gian Albano.

Amongst Gully’s charges are former Knights duo Taylor Schrijvers and Thiel Irandunka, who both made the switch from Somers Street to Green Gully Reserve in the summer.

Monday’s match also marks a milestone for Mohammed Sumaoro, who is in line to make his 50th NPL Victoria appearance against Gully.

The wide man is in his third season at Somers Street and has scored eleven goals in 49 appearances including two so far this season.

Monday’s match kicks off at 7:30pm at Knights Stadium and will be livestreamed on NPL.TV.
