Melbourne Knights will look to equal a pair of club unbeaten runs when they face Heidelberg United in NPL Victoria Round 13 action at Somers Street on Friday night.
Ben Cahn’s side, who sit fourth on the league table ahead of Friday’s match which marks the halfway point of the 2023 season have tasted defeat just once in their last nine league outings and are currently five matches unbeaten.
The strong start to the 2023 campaign leaves Knights six points clear of fifth placed Green Gully as they seek a return to finals football for the first time since 2015.
A result against Heidelberg on Friday would see Knights go unbeaten in NPL Victoria action for six straight matches for just the second time, equalling a record set between September 2014 and March 2015.
Cahn’s side who remain undefeated at home this season would also equal a club record seven game NPL Victoria unbeaten run at Knights Stadium.
Knights were last in action on Tuesday night at Somers Street in the Australia Cup where they defeated NPL 3 outfit Box Hill United 5-0 thanks to a Trevor Ssemakula hat-trick and Luka Kolic brace.
Knights, who aim to reach the Australia Cup national rounds for a fourth time are just two wins away from a Round of 32 berth and have been drawn away against Bentleigh Greens in Preliminary Round 6.
Heidelberg United currently sit tenth on the NPL Victoria standings and come into Friday’s match off the back of a 1-0 win over Green Gully last weekend.
Friday’s match will see the Franjic brothers, who swapped Olympic Village for Somers Street in the summer come up against their former club for the first time, although Joey Franjic is an injury doubt after being forced off with a knock in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Dandenong Thunder.
The last meeting between Knights and Heidelberg finished 3-2 for the Bergers in a five goal thriller at Olympic Village in June last year.
Friday’s match kicks off at 7:30pm at Knights Stadium and will be live streamed on NPL.TV.
