Cahn to lead Knights into 70th Anniversary

Melbourne Knights FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Cahn as the club’s new Head Coach ahead of the 2023 NPL Victoria season.

Cahn, who arrives at Somers Street having previously worked at Olympic FC and Central Coast Mariners is widely regarded as one of the most exciting up and coming coaches in Australian football.

In 2020 Cahn was awarded NPL Queensland Coach of the Year and lead the Queensland state team for games against New South Wales and Brisbane Roar. In 2019 Cahn, who grew up in London playing for the Fulham academy, completed his AFC Pro Licence in Korea, becoming the youngest coach in Australia to hold the accreditation at the time.

The 34-year-old spent the last five seasons in Queensland with Olympic FC leading a side who’d been without finals football in the two seasons prior to his arrival to five straight NPL Queensland Grand Finals and two Australia Cup national round appearances.

Prior to his time in Queensland, Cahn worked with Central Coast Mariners as an A-League Assistant Coach as well as Head Coach of the club’s youth team.

Cahn has a strong reputation for getting the best out of young players, overseeing the development of the likes of Gianni Stensness, Lachie Wales, Josh Nisbet and Trent Buhagiar at the Mariners while Jez Lofthouse and Keegan Jelacic both earned A-League contracts after starring for Cahn at Olympic.

Cahn, who leads the Knights in their 70th Anniversary season said he couldn’t wait to get started at Somers Street.

“I’m privileged to have been given the opportunity to work at a club with such a rich history and I’m very excited by the challenge of trying to take them forward to create the next chapter,” Cahn said.

“I’ve been really impressed with the Club in terms of their vision, ambition and desire to move forwards. I look forward to getting started and giving everything to take Melbourne Knights back to the top.”

Melbourne Knights President, Pave Jusup said the appointment of Cahn was an important step and an exciting direction for the club.

“We’ve been following Ben’s career for a number of years and we’re delighted that he has agreed to join the club in it’s 70th Anniversary year,” Jusup said.

“We’re preparing for a big year ahead and securing Mr. Cahn’s services is the first step towards building a competitive first team that we can all be proud of.”

Stay tuned with a number of signings and re-signings ahead of the 2023 NPL Victoria season set to be revealed in the coming weeks.
