Knights and Blues Draw

Saturday 16 September 2000
In sunny but blustery conditions, Melbourne Knights and Carlton drew 1-1 in the second round of the Tynan-Eyre Cup before more than 1000 people.

New signing Joel Porter continued his goal-scoring run by finding the back of the net by putting away an early through ball to put the Knights in the lead.

The goal is the fourth from four friendly and cup games for the 22-year-old West Adelaide recruit since signing with the Mighty Reds in the pre-season.

Carlton’s Joe Tricarico equalled with a shot from the right flank that was carried by the wind, sailed across goals, found the left post and ricocheted into the net.

With about 15 minutes to go, coach Vlado Vanis replaced sweeper Saso Ognenovski and Joey Rajher with Ivan Galemanovic and Jasmin Sehic.

Knights ‘keeper Martin John, who was put through his paces by the wind at Green Gully Reserve, made some spectacular goal line clearances in the second half, including several corners.

If there was a spectators’ vote for player of the day, Marty would have won. Jason Vukadin was awarded Player of the Match.

The Knights take on cross-town rivals South Melbourne at Knights Stadium next Sunday, September 24, at 4pm, in Round Three of the cup.

Eastern Pride take on Carlton at 2pm.
