Melbourne Knights FC have bolstered its defense with the addition of new signing Cameron Tew from NPL Queensland outfit Brisbane City.
Tew joined Brisbane City in 2013 after an injury plagued 2012 season with Manly in NSW, where he made 22 appearances with the Queensland side in the year that they finished second in the league.
After starting out as a left winger, the 23-year-old transformed into an overlapping fullback in 2014 and was regarded by many as the NPL Queensland’s best left back.
“Chewy” has an incredible engine that allows him to attack and defend seamlessly throughout the match, proving a real handful for opposition attackers and defenders alike.
The former Brisbane City man has been at the Club for a number of weeks, and participated in the Club’s pre-season matches against Green Gully SC, Sydney United 58 FC and Pascoe Vale SC.
Speaking to melbourneknights.com.au after joining Andrew Marth’s squad, Tew said he move south to Victoria was motivated by a desire to play at the best level.
“It’s a great Club,” Tew said.
“The boys are a good bunch of lads and it’s good to be playing with lads who have played here for a long time and have a lot of dedication to the Club.
“The coaching staff are great blokes as well, so it’s been good coming down here.
“I always want to play at the highest level. The VPL or the NPL Victoria is the highest level there is below the A-League, so I want to be a part of that. Talking to Stabba (Andrew Marth), he said he was keen for me, so we put it together and here we are!
“On a personal level, [my goal is] to put together good performances and to cement that spot, and as a team to challenge for the silverware – that’s what the talk is; that’s what we want to do.”
Tew and his new teammates start the new season at home to Avondale FC on Friday, February 20th, with kick off at 8.30PM at Knights Stadium.
