Olympic FC too strong for Knights in FFA Cup

Melbourne Knights has been eliminated from the FFA Cup after losing 3-1 to Olympic FC in their Round of 32 match on Tuesday night.

A first half double by Jacob McLean put the Knights on the back foot early, before a late goal by Mustafa Jafari finished off the contest in the 86th minute.

Jordan O’Doherty scored Knights’ only goal of the match in the 53rd minute. Tomislav Uskok played a nice ball to Stipo Andrijasevic in the box, Andrijasevic’s shot was saved by the ‘keeper but the striker managed to square the ball to O’Doherty who had no trouble putting the ball in the net.

In front of a crowd of almost 2,200 people, Knights started strongly but began to fade somewhat after the 15 minute mark, perhaps a sign the travel and weather took a toll on the players.

Olympic capitalised, scoring two goals and managing to keep the Knights at bay until just after the half time interval.

While Knights were given a glimmer of hope after O’Doherty’s goal, the task of coming back into the match was made harder when the young winger received his marching orders for a second bookable offence in the 78th minute.

Knights next game is against Heidelberg United on Sunday, 03 August. Kick off at Knights Stadium is at 3pm.
