Simunic appointed assistant coach of Croatia

Former Melbourne Knights and Croatian national team 100 gamer Joe Simunic has been appointed assistant to new Croatian national team coach Ante Cacic.

Simunic is now officially part of Cacic’s coaching staff , who has been given a contract through to the 2018 World Cup. His appointment comes after former coach Niko Kovac led the team to two disappointing results in a row which has put Croatia’s Euro 2016 Qualification into question, namely an away draw against Azerbaijan and a loss to Norway which sees the side slip to third place on the qualifying table where they formerly occupied first place.

Simunic this year returned to the club after many years of professional football in Europe, most notably with Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim. He was the guest of honour at the Knights’ opening NPL Victoria 2015 season clash against Avondale Heights and kicked the game off, whilst he was also presented with a club jersey.

We wish Simunic all the best in his new role in the hope that he continues to contribute to the Croatian national team’s ongoing success.
