Melbourne Knights FC is able to confirm that life-long supporter of the Club Tomislav Uskok has been awarded the captaincy ahead of the 2015 PS4 NPL Victoria season.
Uskok, 23, has worn the armband throughout most of pre-season, as outgoing captain Ben Surey has been sidelined with injury.
The defensive midfielder will officially make his first appearance as captain tomorrow night when the Knights take on traditional rivals South Melbourne for the inaugural FFV Community Shield.
The former deputy vice-captain said he was honoured to be given the new title, and acknowledged the calibre of the players that preceded him in the role.
“It’s a privileged, obviously,” Uskok said.
“Like everyone knows, a fair few of us boys have been at the Club a long time and grew up at the club so it’s obviously something that you strive for as a leader in the team.
“You watch all the good players, the great players of the club, and all the kind of captains – like Andew Marth and [Josip] Biskic.
“I mean, to be put in the same sort of captaincy, roles, as those players that captained the Club, it’s a big thing, so obviously its a great honour and a privilege.”
The Club would like to thank out-going captain Ben Surey for his service to the Knights, which included captaining the Club to its first piece of silverware in 18 years. The Englishman will continue to have a pivotal role in Andrew Marth’s leadership group.
