Melbourne Knights are excited to confirm the addition of Curacao international, Gevaro Nepomuceno ahead of the 2023 NPL Victoria season.
The 30-year-old winger arrives at Somers Street with an impressive CV, having plied his trade in the Europa League, Portuguese, Romanian and Bulgarian top flights, English Football League and Dutch Eerste Divisie.
At international level, Nepomuceno is Curacao’s second most capped player, having represented his country 47 times since making his debut in 2014.
The wide man, who has scored eight times for his nation played in Curacao’s most recent matches against Indonesia in September.
Nepomuceno was born in Curacao and raised in the Netherlands, playing the early stages of his career in the Dutch second tier with FC Den Bosch and Fortuna Sittard.
After four seasons in the Eerste Divisie, the winger joined Romanian Liga 1 club Petrolui Ploeisti, scoring on debut in a Europa League victory over Flamurtari Vlore of Albania.
Nepomuceno would spend two seasons in the Romanian top flight with the highlight of his time at Petrolui being a winning goal against the then defending Champions, Steaua Bucharest.
A move to Portugal followed with Nepomuceno spending playing in both the first and second tier across two seasons at Maritimo and Famalicao.
The winger then spent three seasons in the UK, making 83 appearances in League One & Two at Oldham along with stints at Chesterfield and Halifax Town.
In 2021 Nepomuceno returned to Romania, signing with one of the countries most successful clubs, Dinamo Bucharest where he would go on to make ten appearances at the back end of the season.
Nepomuceno, who arrives at Knights having most recently played in the Bulgarian top flight with Cherno More said he couldn’t wait to get started at Somers Street.
“I’ve decided to come to Melbourne Knights because of the Gaffer Ben Cahn, after some good talks he gave me confidence that the way he wants to play suits me and I’m excited for the opportunity to be part of an amazing club with great history.
“I want to be important for the team with goals and assists and help the team achieve something as we compete for first place.”
Nepomuceno, who will wear the number 11 jersey this season arrived in Melbourne over the weekend and trained with his new teammates for the first time on Monday evening.
