The inaugural Melbourne Knights FC 5-a-side tournament was held on Sunday 17 February at Knights stadium.
Ten teams registered for the event and the chance to take home the $1,500 prize money which was up for grabs.
The games kicked off at 10am and the teams all started off with great gusto, but as the day wore on and the mercury climbed to almost 36 degrees, you could feel their pain as they fought to stay in the game.
As they battled on the field, one game after another, a number of spectators enjoyed the BBQ and cold drinks from the sidelines, seeking shelter from the blistering heat.
The final was fought out right till the end with both teams attacking and looking for that winning goal and their hands on the winner’s cheque!
In the end their could only be one winner, with Super St. Albans, comprising of past and present players from St. Albans Dinamo, defeating Prospects 2:1, a brave young team featuring players from the Melbourne Knights U21 team.
Melbourne Knights President Ange Cimera congratulated the two teams and presented the winning team with a plaque and $1,000 in prize money. Prospects received $500 for their effort.
Melbourne Knights FC and its committee would like to thank all the players who braved the heat and took part in the tournament. A special thank you to Cedevita for their sponsorship of the event.
