Presentation night of Knights

Last Saturday night at the Melbourne Croatia Social Club, the Melbourne Knights faithful packed the venue with much to celebrate. In what was a tumultuous start to the season for the senior men’s team, end of year results as well as qualification for the inaugural Mirabella Cup Final gave supporters plenty to be proud of come season end.

Much to the surprise and excitement of many in attendance, the evening kicked off with the announcement of Ivana Raspudi? as Miss Melbourne Croatia 2011. Ivana was selected for her ongoing contribution and commitment to the club. She will represent Melbourne Croatia/Knights at the Miss Croatia Australia Gala night on Saturday 1st October, where she will be escorted by Mr Ryan Filipovic.

A new addition to the senior presentation night was the inclusion of the U18 squad, who ended the season brilliantly under the guidance of highly successful U21 Coach Micky Colina.

In the Women’s team presentations, it was Jessa Baluyot (Best and Fairest) and Catherine Sikic (Top Goal Scorer) who received the individual honours. This season, with a home record that the senior men would have been proud to replicate, the young team finished third (3rd) in their division, scoring numerous goals while maintaining an impressive defensive record to boot. Coach Tony Kolceg and his team have high hopes as their campaign continues with a semi-final berth booked for next weekend.

As for the U/21 boys, what a season it was! The evening gave everyone associated with the U21 team an opportunity to reflect on their contribution to the future of the Melbourne Knights. Stefan Baricevic (Best and Fairest) and Brandon Zezovski (Top Goal scorer), who both started in Saturday’s Mirabella Cup Final, were only two (2) of the stars of the season. Narrowly missing out on a Men’s Premier League U21 title, Coach Micky Colina and the boys were applauded for their outstanding season this year.

But it was 2011 Mirabella Cup Finalists, the Melbourne Knights, who delighted the crowd at this year’s Presentation Night. Despite the result earlier in the day, there was much to celebrate, most importantly a spirit and passion for the club that is evident in the senior squad, on and off the park. Coach Paul Magdic was called upon to present his team with their awards, saying that this young group of Knights were a pleasure to lead. It was a Colosimo double win with Anthony Colosimo (Best and Fairest) and Jacob Colosimo (Top Goal Scorer) taking out the individual accolades.

With the awards done and dusted, the party really kicked into gear. With Major Minor at the helm, old school renditions of ‘Zivjela Croacija’ filled the sold out Social Club, while young and old packed the dance floor.

In the early hours of the morning, as the tables were cleared and the band were finally allowed to load out, it was proclaimed by many that this was the best presentation night hosted by the Melbourne Knights in a long time. May there be many more to come.

The Melbourne Knights would like to thank our Presentation Night sponsors, Mr Stanko Bilic (Bilic Homes), Steve Oglvy (Casella Wines), Mr Steve Mandekic (Racecourse Motors), Mr Jack Skoblar (Director Auto Repairs) and Mr. Bradjic.
