Harris Brace Secures Cup Progression

Melbourne Knights’ FFA Cup campaign kicked off with a 3-1 victory over State League One outfit Geelong SC at Stead Park on Saturday evening.

Andrew Marth fielded a strong squad with the intent of avoiding an early round exit, being forced into just one change with Milan Batur replacing the suspended Damien Miskulin.

The match began at a frantic pace as both sides created early opportunities to open the scoring.

Joshua Talev fired over the bar, before Hillary-Jenkins was denied by Cakarun from close range in the 9th minute.

The Knights weren’t without their chances either as Elvis Kamsoba’s ambitious scissor kick was just off target.

Following a sustained period of pressure the visitors took the lead in the 24th minute. Jason Hicks’ corner was forced over the line by Kym Harris with the preseason signing scoring his first goal for the club.

Just 9 minutes later and the visitors doubled their advantage. Dixon slotted past Nikolovski from the edge of the area to score his second goal in as many games.

On the hour mark the Knights sealed their progression with a third goal. Kym Harris turned his marker inside out and fired past an advancing Nikolovski to earn his brace.

Chances fell to Kamsoba, Cahill and Harris to extend the advantage, however the home fans were able to cheer a late consolation goal from Scott Robson with the last kick of the game.

Post Match Kym Harris spoke to Knights Media about the victory;

“These cup games are just about getting through and the early rounds are never easy. Happy to have come down to Geelong and get the result.”

On his brace:

“On a personal level it’s always nice to get goals for the club, the first one had some luck getting over the line, and the second one was quite nice so hopefully in the next few weeks I can get a few more for the club.”

On our home record:

“It’s something we’ve spoken about. And it’s something we need to rectify. We’ve got back-to-back wins now and hopefully keep that ball rolling and kick on with our season.”
