International talent arrives at Somers St

The Melbourne Knights are excited to announce the next addition to the 2022 senior mens squad – international attacking midfielder Luka Celic.

Hailing from the seaside Croatian town of Šibenik, 24-year-old Celic took the opportunity to join the club in his stride, despite the rigmarole of signing for a foreign side and making the move during the ongoing pandemic. Speaking on his move to the Knights, Celic admits that “the opportunity came along and I accepted it as a new chapter in my career” whilst adding that he “heard only nice things about the people running the club, the players and the fans. That was proven to me after I arrived.”

Celic has to date spent the vast majority of his career at his local club and Croatian Football League side HNK Šibenik, beginning in their juniors development program and transitioning into the side’s seniors as a 21 year old. He played over 100 league games in his four seasons with the orange-blacks. More recently, Celic spent time at NK Vodice before heading to the Knights.

International

Having only recently touched down in the state, Celic has made quick work of fitting into the team and solidifying his place amongst the squad. In a side laden with forwards, Celic admits he has his work cut out for him but is determined to claim a starting 11 spot.

Aside from finding his place in the club, Celic must also get his bearings of the Victorian league if he is to find success on the park. Speaking on Australian football and his goals for the year, Celic relented “To be honest I’m not very familiar with the league but I do know that it will be competitive” and that “my goal is to aim for the highest honours with my teammates.”

The club welcomes Luka and is looking forward to seeing the Croatian national play in front of a home crowd in Round 2 against Avondale FC.
