Long-serving player departs in transfer window

Melbourne Knights FC would like to inform members and supporters that long-serving player Jacob Colosimo has departed the Club for fellow NPL side Avondale FC in the mid-season transfer window.

Colosimo, 23, was announced as an Avondale player on Friday afternoon via their club website after farewelling his teammates at Knights Stadium earlier in the week.

The forward arrived at Somers Street back in 2008 and, up until his move, was one of the longest-serving members of Andrew Marth’s 2015 senior squad.

Speaking to melbourneknights.com.au before his departure, Colosimo thanked the Knights community for supporting him over the 7 years he spent at the Club.

“I’d like to thank all the fans and members for their support over the last 7 years. Its been a pleasure being a part of such a great community and playing for such a great club.”

“I have mixed emotions leaving Knights. I’m sad because they’re like my family – its been like a second home to me. At the same time, I’m excited to take on the new challenges ahead of me.”

“It truly does mean a lot to have played for Melbourne Knights. I was given the opportunity to play for a Club that has produced so many great players and big names, a Club with so much pride, history and culture. Melbourne Knights will always have a place in my heart and I really do appreciate the opportunity they gave me.”

In a interesting turn of events, Colosimo will get an opportunity to play against his old side this Saturday when Avondale FC host the Knights at Avondale Heights Reserve, with kick off at 3PM.
